  Jack was closer to his mother's side of the family than his father's side, probably a result of his parents splitting up shortly after Jack was born. During WWII, Jack was briefly stationed at Bathurst, and remembers going to visit his father's relatives (probably William Kelly), but he got the cold shoulder..
